The Positivity Project – Part 7

Welcome back! Last Sunday, Rachel from Healthy and Psyched set me the challenge of asking three simple questions every day to see whether this could make me happier! I’m always a little sceptical about these things but I gave it a go and at the end of each day I wrote down the answers to these three questions:

  • What do I love about myself today?
  • What has made me happy today?
  • What am I looking forward to?

I’ve never managed to keep any kind of diary or ritual like this for longer than a day so it was always going to be a challenge, and I definitely missed a day or two because I just forgot – but one major thing I noticed was how much better I felt and slept on the days that i’d answered the questions. By focusing on all the positive aspects of your day, you can’t help but go to bed happy! Instead of thinking about the work I had to do the next day, I looked forward to the friends I was going to see at the weekend. It also made me realise things I was achieving that I wouldn’t have previously considered… since I moved house my gym has been the conservatory so i’m unable to lift as heavy as I would have previously , yet when I visited a gym last weekend I hit a squat PB (also showing the power of giving your body a rest every now and then!)

I am ALWAYS looking forward to a holiday!

I honestly couldn’t recommend this highly enough to everyone. It takes 2 minutes so you can do it whilst brushing your teeth, for something so small and seemingly insignificant, it has  an amazing impact on your sleep and mood for the next day. It’s easy to forget about all the good things that happen to us every day, this is just a way of making sure we are grateful for them all!

The next (and final!) challenge will be no doubt the hardest for me. I am going to try and spend a day being nothing but positive, now I am realistic in the knowledge that it’s not possible to be 100% positive all the time, life doesn’t work that way. But, by spending a few days forcing myself to see everything positively I should hopefully be able to get more of a positive outlook on a day to day basis long term! My boyfriend would be the first to tell you that I love complaining, so this could be difficult – but I will give it a go!

  1. I’m so glad it’s help you feel more positive and sleep better. I should start doing it again. It’s easy to get out of the habit.
    Hehe- Oh my gosh. I am a champion complainer! But my new years resolution was to be more positive 🙂
