Review: Purezza, Brighton

It’s been so so long before I reviewed somewhere foodie for you all but I promise this one is worth the wait! I was very kindly invited along to Purezza recently to try their plant based menu and it is honestly one of the most delicious meals i’ve had in a long time! I think there is a common misconception that meat free meals are unsubstantial and lacking in flavour, but I didn’t feel like I missed anything here.

I have recently been consciously reducing my meat intake of late so it is good to know that places like Purezza exist, the effort they put into making sure the menu is full of everything you would expect from a pizza restaurant is just amazing. As you’ll see, I tried a pizza with not one but 4 different varieties of non-dairy cheese!

For starter, we went for the bread with dips as the dips just sounded incredible! Hummus, pesto and a beetroot dip… I was least excited about the beetroot as it’s not my favourite flavour but I was pleasantly surprised. It tasted incredible and the sharpness of the beetroot was perfectly balanced into a creamy dip (we kept our leftovers to eat with the main course too!) They also topped the bread with a delicious rice milk cheese, as good as you would find at any great Italian but all the better knowing the care that went into making it.

For mains, it had to be pizza. The pizza is definitely what you would visit Purezza for, they have a huge variety of toppings, again all plant based and full of flavour. We really struggled in knowing what to go for so decided on getting two pizzas to share. The first was the ‘Chick Magnet’ which was covered in veggies and chickpeas, it was so light and delicious I would highly recommend.LRG_DSC05085

The second we went for was the ‘Cheesus’ which was topped with 4 varieties of dairy free milks. This was a little heavier so may not be suitable for everyone but if you fancy a bit of comfort food this is definitely the one… I just think it’s amazing that they can make so many varieties of cheese to enjoy for anyone following a vegan or plant based diet.

Now for pudding, well we were pretty full by this point so we definitely didn’t eat as much as we would’ve done otherwise… but we managed to find room for the creme brûlée and a few scoops of ice-cream. If I had had more room I would’ve definitely gone for the Oreo dessert!

The three flavours of ice-cream that they make were all so delicious. Firstly a rose, acai and pomegranate sorbet which was so light and refreshing. Secondly a chocolate salted caramel ice-cream which had a banana base and was so moreish! But by far the best of them all was the vanilla maca ice-cream. This had a base of soy milk so it was uber creamy and honestly tastes just as indulgent as any luxury vanilla ice-cream. It was the perfect end to a delicious meal, with absolutely no compromises despite it missing a lot of ingredients that many of us use on a daily basis.

It just shows how versatile a plant based diet can be so I honestly recommend this place to everyone regardless of your diet. If you are already following a plant based diet then you will honestly love this place, and if you’re not, well it may just persuade you to branch out a little!
